, the financial district's, where the world comes to shop in union square, where the tourists spend time on fisherman's wharf , and the wonderful polk street neighborhoods. my district encompasses the ethnic and economic diversity that exists throughout the city. i think my district is emblematic of the entire city. you can find every political perspective you can possibly want in district 3. oftentimes, the interests of my district and the city are aligned. i do not have to think about those differences quite as often as some of my colleagues may have to. >> let's talk about the budget situation. we have been faced with some tough budget decisions again, including where to make cuts and whether or not to increase taxes. how will you approached these hard choices? >> our budget is one of the very top challenges facing city government right now. over each of the years i have served, we have had to balance budget deficits that were around $500 million. this year, we're facing another budget deficit of almost $400 million. fortunately in recent years, we have had some ability to do some one

by an incident in union square. i want to take a moment and thank the san francisco police department for your input. if we pass legislation to require additional security requirements and plans. we pass legislation to give the entertainment commission more tools to shut down those handful of clubs that have often given a bad name to the rest of the industry. we passed legislation to pass for the first time a party registry. and we pass legislation to ensure a minimum level of security. all of that being said, the great news is today for that for whatever reason, in part because of good legislation and part because of good law enforcement and in part because of the good work that you all are doing, it is much improved. i know lager get woken up on sunday mornings by tv reporters asking me to comment on the latest shooting. we have an opportunity to ensure that san francisco has the greatest and most vibrant nightlife of any major city in the country. i want to thank my colleague scott wiener for helping to showcase the importance of the other nine to five economy. the impact of all that you do

for 15 years. she is very passionate about student rights and organized the black student union at both balboa and mission high schools. she is a true leader of our community having been a vocal advocate for residents of holly court and plaza east. she has been a strong voice for residents and was recurrently elected president of the plaza east tenant association. it is with pleasure that i say congratulations to you and wanted to mention that ms. hollands is a minister in training. so that being said, if you'd all like to say a few words about your work, that would be great. >> i want to suably say thank you and i really appreciate it. i work for the san francisco housing authority. i'm a eligibility worker at the robert pace development. been a team effort. for the last three or four months really appreciate your help over there because you came down there, you walked around, you see that the tenants met with everybody and it really encouraged people and being an opportunity for jobs is like -- it's awesome. the tenants are happy. we have opportunities for families to have, you know,
